Korifidis School

Category: Architecture - Education Project Type: Proposal Year: 2018 Location: Greece - Thesaloniki Size: 3,100 m²

Located on the slopes of Thessaloniki, this school seamlessly integrates with the natural landscape, using the site’s inclination as a core element in its design. The building’s terraced structure mirrors the hillside, with each level slightly offset, ensuring all classrooms open onto ground-level terraces, fostering a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

  • The school features four levels:
    • Top Level: Main entrance and administrative areas.
    •
    • Three Lower Levels: Classrooms with direct outdoor access.
  •
  • A sloped corridor runs through all levels, creating fluid movement throughout the building.
  • At the basement level, a spacious theatre is integrated into the hillside, offering a versatile space for performances and events.
  • Materials & Aesthetic:

    • Concrete frames the structure, providing strength and stability.
    • Expansive glass facades stretch across each level, maximizing natural light and offering panoramic views.
    • Wooden ceilings bring warmth to the interior, contrasting the modern glass and concrete while maintaining a natural feel.
    • Architectural Features:
    • A prominent tree-like wooden structure supports the sloped corridor and roof at the entrance, symbolizing the school’s connection to nature and growth.
    • Each level is designed to function as a ground floor, thanks to the building’s integration with the hillside’s natural slope.
